The Marketing Mix Every Massage Therapist Needs

If you’re relying on just one way to get clients… you’re making life harder than it needs to be.

The most successful massage therapists don’t depend on a single source — they build a simple, consistent marketing mix that works together.

Here’s what that looks like:

1. Rebooking (your #1 strategy)

Your easiest client to book is the one already on your couch. Always offer a follow-up appointment. It's always helpful to talk over their goals and recommend how many treatments it may take to achieve or when they may expect to experience results. Alternatively learning how they like to rebook, do they like to rebook at appointments or do they like to wait and snap up a last minute availability that you've posted about on social media.

A top tip is to routinely message clients who haven't rebooked following treatments to check in, ask how they are feeling after the treatment and ask if they would like to rebook.

2. Word of Mouth

Happy clients are your best marketers. Ensuring that you offer the highest level of customer service and sharing your knowledge with your clients guarantees they will tell the world about you. For example, rather than simply treating the tension held in their neck, educate them about the work you are doing, which muscles are tight and why and share aftercare advice that can help resolve the issue- the next time someone they know experiences the same issue they'll refer them straight to you!

3. Your Google Presence

A well-optimised Google Business Profile helps you show up when people search “massage near me” — this is where ready-to-book clients find you. Search engine optimisations and Google Ads are fantastic but did you know having a free Google Business Profile gets you on the map at the top for anyone searching for your services in your area. We cannot stress this enough, ensure you have a listing.

4. Social Media (organic + ads)

Having a presence online is helpful to build credibility and trust. It can be a great asset for posting about seasonal offers and last minute availability. You don't need a huge following, its about staying front of mind with your clients and hopefully reaching new clients. Post consistently and, when ready, use locally targeted ads to reach new people nearby. We recommend either learning to run ads or finding someone to do this for you. Turning on this affordable, targeted advertising as and when you need it can add momentum at quieter times. You can also very quickly learn what messaging works and the return you are getting on the advertising.

5. Booking Systems (e.g. Fresha)

Make it easy to book. Convenience = more clients. We are all guilty of losing interest fast. Ensure all marketing collateral tells people very quickly what you offer, why they should book and most importantly how to book.

6. Get Visible Locally

• Flyers in complementary businesses

• Partnerships with gyms, salons, clinics

• Referrals from other wellness professionals

For hyperlocal businesses get creative. Dropping a flyer through the doorsteps of the immediate streets to your clinic can sometimes cut through the noise and catch your prospective clients attention. An for large companies nearby can be great for awareness

7. Get Face-to-Face

• Events, markets, fetes, fairs

• Offer tasters to build trust quickly

Networking and meeting people can bring a buzz to your business. You will also get a feel for the patter that works. Have a line or two prepared to answer the question 'so what do you do?'. Talk with enthusiasm about how you help other people feel amazing, share you knowledge and passion.

8. Awareness Boosters

• Gift vouchers in raffles or competitions

• Local collaborations

No single strategy does all the work — but together, they create a steady flow of new and returning clients. It can be isolating working alone and having a mixture of ways to meet new clients will keep things fresh and keep business trickling in. With time you will learn the activities that give you the biggest influx of interest and the ways you shine! Some of us show up better online and others wow when face to face. Your marketing mix should work for you, not the other way round.

Keep it simple. Stay consistent. Build momentum.
